File # BCHP Burnaby DF2023-823
On August 23, 2023 at approximately 3:00pm, BC Highway Patrol-Burnaby responded to a report of a dump truck that was being driven erratically southbound on Highway # 99 on approach to the Massey Tunnel in Richmond, BC. Officers were able to intercept the dump truck as it exited the tunnel. Subsequent investigation determined that the driver, identified as a man in his 30’s from Surrey, was impaired by a drug. As a result, he was charged with multiple infractions under the BC Motor Vehicle Act and his licence was suspended for a 24-hour period. The dump truck was also impounded.
Staff Sergeant Quentin Frewing of BC Highway Patrol-Burnaby said We offer our sincere thanks to those motorists who called in to report this incident. It enabled our dispatchers and officers to quickly respond and stop this driving behaviour before it could result in any injury or property damage.
During the summer, BC Highway Patrol has been engaged in stepped-up enforcement of impaired driving behaviour throughout the province. Motorists can expect this enforcement to continue as we move into the fall season.
