Constable Jimmy Ng

Regimental # 45194

Constable Jimmy Ng

On September 15, 2002, Constable Jimmy Ng was working a night shift and was dispatched to a routine call for service. While driving through the intersection of Number 3 Road and Williams Road, his police vehicle was broadsided by a speeding vehicle. The driver, who was street racing with another vehicle, sped through a red light and collided with Jimmy’s marked police vehicle. Jimmy was rushed to hospital but tragically was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The driver fled the scene, but was taken into custody after an exhaustive manhunt. The driver was later convicted, receiving a two-year jail sentence.

Jimmy was highly respected by both his felllow Constables and the Non-Commissioned Officers on his Watch. One former Watchmate described him as a person they all looked up to, a cornerstone of the Watch, a role model and friend to all. Jimmy was a true leader whose tragic loss was greatly felt by all those who worked with him.

Jimmy grew up in Richmond, the only child of Chris and Therese Ng. He attended high school in Richmond, as well as the University of British Columbia. He was sworn into the RCMP on March 18, 1996 and was posted to Duncan Detachment prior to returning to his hometown of Richmond.

Jimmy has been added to both the RCMP Honour Roll in Regina and Police and Peace Officer Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Jimmy was a dedicated police officer and citizen of Richmond. He will forever be remembered by those who had the opportunity to work with him. Jimmy’s final resting place is within the cemetery at Depot Division in Regina, Saskatchewan.
