BC RCMP welcomes Troop 5 of Experienced Police officers

Twelve experienced police officers have joined the RCMP family after having started their careers with other police forces from across the country. The newly hired officers bring with them a wealth of policing skills and experience ranging from 5 years to 30 years of working in law enforcement.

On Tuesday, July 11, the BC RCMP held a swearing-in ceremony, to welcome the new Experienced Police Officers to the organization. Seven of the new officers were sworn in by RCMP Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald and Chief Superintendent Mark Lepage. Five officers were unable to attend the ceremony in person and completed their swearing in virtually.

Graduates of the third 2023 EPO troop will be assigned to:

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team
BC Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit
Integrated National Security Enforcement Unit
BC Highway Patrol
Frontline policing
- Kamloops RCMP detachment
- Whitehorse RCMP detachment
- New Hazelton RCMP detachment
- Nelson (rural) RCMP detachment
LMD Integrated Emergency Response Team

I am honoured to have this troop of experienced officers join our organization, says Deputy Commissioner, Dwayne McDonald, Commanding Officer of the BC RCMP. The knowledge, skills and experience which they bring is a true benefit to the RCMP.

Troop 5 will also be the first group of experienced police officers to have the opportunity to travel to the RCMP Academy, Depot Division in Regina, SK. The trip will provide the officers an immersive experience to learn about the rich history of the RCMP and to be fitted for their general duty and iconic RCMP Red Serge uniforms.

Next month, the troop of Experienced Police Officers will attend a three-week training course at the Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack, BC. The training will cover RCMP interviewing techniques, policy and procedures and tactical training. The officers will begin their first posts upon completion of the training.

Applications for Experienced Police Officers are accepted throughout the year and there is no deadline to apply. There are over 150 career specializations and detachments all across Canada. Postings for Experienced Police Officers are based on an officer’s interest, career goals and previous police experience.
