The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 413 calls for service from Friday June 2, to 9 a.m. on Monday June 5, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.
Police presence on the North Shore

Multiple police officers were visible on Joyce Avenue this weekend for a threats report involving what appeared to be a handgun.
On Friday June 2, 2023, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended a residential address on the 2700-block of Joyce Avenue as part of the investigation. A suspect was arrested and a search warrant was executed in relation to the alleged offence.
The suspect was later released with conditions and a court date. Charge recommendation is anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.

Impaired driving

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a Saturday night collision in Westsyde.
On June 3, 2023, around 7:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to Westsyde Road at Ord Road, where a grey SUV was reported to have lost control and crashed into the hillside, after narrowly missing another vehicle at the intersection. Two occupants were located and arrested nearby.
The suspect driver was transported to the detachment to provide samples of his breath as part of the impaired driving investigation. Both tests exceeded .08, which is a separate offence in addition to operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
A man was released with a court date and conditions, with charge recommendations anticipated as part of the assessment process.
Assault with a weapon

Police went to a Valleyview gas station this weekend for a man who had been bear sprayed, and left with a man wanted on a warrant.
On Sunday June 4, 2023, around 12:30 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the 1700-block of the East Trans Canada Highway in response to a request to assist ambulance. The victim said he had been bear sprayed across the street, but did not know the man responsible or have a description of him.
As part of their investigation, officers discovered that another man who was with the victim was wanted on a warrant, and arrested him.
