Shoplifter arrested for assault

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 8:52 pm, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of an assault after a loss prevention officer was punched by a shoplifter at a grocery store located on the 9200 block of 100th Street in Fort St John.

The Fort St John RCMP attended and spoke with the loss prevention officer and witnesses who described the situation and the male shoplifter.

At 9:09 pm, patrolling RCMP located a man matching the description of the suspect and arrested him for Assault.

The individual was on existing conditions not to possess any incendiary devices or flammable products but was found to be in possession of multiple lighters.

The man remains in police custody and is being held for court to face charges of Assault and Breach of Release Order but charges have not yet been approved.
