Excessive speed lands fine and impound of motorcycle

On Monday, May 1, 2023, at 7:05 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when he observed a 64-year-old Trail man riding a motorcycle at 113 km/h in a 60km/h zone near the intersection of Laburnum Drive and Highway 3B, in Trail, BC. The officer detained the man and his motorcycle roadside.
The 64-year-old Trail man was issued a $368 fine for Excessive Speed contrary to Section 148(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and had his motorcycle impounded for up to 7 days.
As summertime approaches, Trail RCMP and BCHP will be out conducting enforcement in the Trail and Greater District area.

Suspicious fire in Rossland

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 6:07 a.m. Trail and Greater District RCMP and Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to a report of a house fire in the 2600 block of Monte Christo Street, in Rossland, BC. First responders discovered that the house was fully engulfed at the time of their arrival. The two occupants and their pets were not injured during the blaze.
The cause of the fire still under investigation and arson had not been ruled out at this time.

Break, enters, and thefts in downtown Trail

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 5:00 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a commercial alarm at a business in the 1200 block of Cedar Avenue, in Trail, BC. The officer discovered that a suspect had smashed the front door glass to gain entry into the business. The suspect stole six to eight pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses. The suspect is described as Caucasian, with dark hair and was wearing a black, knee-length jacket with a hood, a black shirt with a white design on the left side, blue socks, grey pants and black shoes. On May 7, 2023, at 10:17 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a break, enter, and theft at a business in the 1200 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC. Two suspects had entered the business through a back door and stole two Milwaukee drills, an angle grinder, a band saw and a Hilti hammer drill in a bright orange case.
The first suspect is described as Caucasian with a slim build and was wearing blue jeans, brown boots, a dark coloured toque, a facemask, and a dark brown, puffy- style winter coat. The second suspect was described as Caucasian with a medium build and noticeable hunch and was wearing a blue jacket with black hoodie, black Adidas pants with 3 white stripes on the legs, and white runners. Impaired Driving

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 3:06 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a routine patrol when he spotted a 46-year-old Trail man driving a 2007 Toyota Tacoma driving away from a government liquor store in the 1600 block of Second Avenue, in Trail, BC,. The man drove his truck over a curb and failed to signal when he turned his vehicle at a nearby four-way stop intersection. The officer detained the man and his vehicle roadside.
The officer made observations that led him to believe the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into an investigation. A demand was read to the man, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail.
The 46-year-old Trail man was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act. His vehicle was impounded for a period of at minimum of 30-days.
