File # Online Reporting
The Quesnel RCMP would like to remind the public of the Online Crime Reporting tool available to them.
Online crime reporting was launched in Quesnel in 2020. The online crime reporting allows a person to report non-emergency crimes that do not require police attendance or follow-up.
Online reporting is a great time-saving tool for contacting police about minor property offences where there are no witnesses or surveillance available, such as an overnight theft from vehicle. The online process will generate a file number, which may be required for insurance claims, and provide police with important information about where and what crimes are occurring which helps police to identify high crime areas for increased patrols. More importantly, it frees up time for front line personnel to respond to higher-priority calls and emergencies.
Online reporting provides an alternative for you to report non-emergency crimes day and night, without having to call or go to your local detachment,
says Cst. Philip Cabena. Your report may help provide important information in identifying crime trends in the community.
You can use Online Crime Reporting if:
- You have no witness nor suspect
- You have lost something that costs less than $5000
- Someone has stolen something from you that costs less than $5000
- Someone has vandalized your property or car and it will cost less than $5000 to repair it
- There are no items involving personal identity, firearms, license plates or decals
- Driving complaints
A typical online report will take fifteen minutes to complete. The report will require your name, address, phone number, and email address. You can access online reporting by going to report.rcmp.ca, once you have selected an address for your report you can learn more under the FAQ tab.
