BCHP – Smithers seize third firearm in the North

On February 25, 2024, a BC Highway Patrol officer, in Smithers, seized a firearm and ammunition at a traffic stop making this the third firearm seized by BCHP in the North this past month. At 6:10pm, the officer conducted a traffic stop with a pickup truck for speeding and vehicle defects. The driver and passengers for quickly arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking.

During the investigation, police seized the following items:

Drugs, thousands of dollars in Canadian currency, and a rifle with scope and ammunition in an open gun case.

Charges have not been formally approved yet and further details about the occupants will not be released at this time. If you have any information about the incident, please contact BC Highway Patrol in Smithers at (250) 847-3233 and refer to file 2024-700.
